Search for physiotherapy services, then ask the clinic which practitioner and appointment would fit your needs. A useful shortlist combines relevant experience, practical access and clear information about assessment and fees.
What can physiotherapy involve?
Physiotherapy can include assessment, exercise, advice and hands-on treatment. The combination depends on the person and the problem; it is not simply another name for massage. The NHS overview describes the main routes to treatment and what may happen at an appointment.
If you are unsure which service to choose, start with massage or physiotherapy. For activity-related goals, read sports physiotherapy; for arrangements outside a clinic, see home visits.
Check the individual professional
In the UK, “physiotherapist” and “physical therapist” are protected titles. The HCPC regulates individuals, rather than registering a whole clinic as a physiotherapist. Ask for the full name and registration number of the person you would see, then check their current record.
An entry in this directory is not an HCPC check. The original physiotherapy dataset also contains multidisciplinary clinics and related services. A clinic name alone does not establish the professional status of everyone working there. Our choosing a physiotherapist guide walks through the checks.
Ask about the route to care
Private appointments, NHS services, employer schemes and insurance arrangements can have different entry requirements. Confirm which applies before booking. Our NHS physiotherapy guide distinguishes the routes in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland rather than assuming one national self-referral system.
Compare appointments fairly
Ask whether the fee is for an initial assessment or a follow-up, how long it lasts and what written advice is included. Tell the clinic what matters to you: walking to work, returning to your sport, managing stairs or understanding a recurring problem. A specific goal is more useful than requesting a treatment technique before being assessed.
Check the full branch address and access arrangements. Then use the contact information provided to confirm availability directly. This directory does not make bookings, show live waiting times or rank clinical quality.
